Well here's everything we talked about at the TAB meeting on Thurs. Dec.1st...
Meeting was called to order at 5:25pm
Kim (secretary) was unable to attend the meeting due to car failure.
Treasurer's report:
Our budget from allocations was confirmed and we got increases in ALL AREAS that we asked for!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who attended the budget meeting, your presence was most likely a huge factor in us getting the increases. We will receive a $2000 increase for Terry's position in the costume shop, as well as increases for student assistant positions and for things such as paying for musicians.
Old Business:
1. A big thank you to everyone who helped out with the student one act high school festival. Everything went well and we couldn't have pulled it off without everyone's hard work and dedication.
2. Thank you/congratulations to everyone who auditioned for The Visit and Zombies
3. Ad sale money: Maria gave an update on how much we've made on ad sales. To date, we've gotten a total of $1,249 from ad sales... we do not as of yet know how much of that is profit, since we don't have our total printing costs yet, however last year's printing costs came to about $800. Also, there is still space available if anyone wishes to purchase ad space... (ex. last year Will purchased a "break a leg cast!" ad)
4.Cattle call update: at the beginning of the year we talked about working with the R/T/F department and having a cattle call audition so that they can see how auditions are run as well as letting the acting students see what a cattle call audition would be like. This would also allow R/T/F students to see people they may want to cast in their films for class or film society. There is a small possibility we will have this second semester, however we will most likely not have this until the beginning of the school year next year.
5. Reading List Update: Roy said he will send an e-mail to the rest of the faculty about compiling a reading list of plays and possibly a few musicals that all theatre students should have read or be familiar with by the time they graduate. This list would be recommended but not required. We should have the reading list at or before our next TAB meeting (Feb. 2nd)
6. ACTF info: ACTF (the American College Theatre Festival) will be over the second week in interim. It is a good experience and in the past it has been possible for people participating as well as an occasional student who is just going for fun to attend and not have to pay for anything but food. This may not be the case this year, however Roy did not know for sure either way. He will let us know as soon as the numbers are figured out.
7. USITT info: USITT is the United States Institute for Theatre Technology. This year their annual conference will be held March 29th - April 1st, in Louisville, Kentucky. Four faculty members will be attending (Roy, Kathleen, Mick, and Terry) as well as Crystal Heckert and possibly one or two other students. They would be leaving Tuesday March 28th. This is an excellent conference to attend if you are interested in design or other technical aspects of theatre. Unfortunately registration fees are a bit expensive. If you are interested in attending please talk to any of the faculty that are attending, there may be ways to offset the cost. For more info you can also go to www.usitt.org/louisville/ConfHome.html
8. Vagina Monologue Update: We have gotten a hold of the director of this year's production of the Vagina Monologues. This year CARE is the main group organizing the production. Jamie Racine (the director) was very excited to learn that TAB is interested in helping. They have already had casting, but Kelsey will be meeting with Jamie to discuss what help is needed. The production is to raise money for organizations that help abused women, such as the Christine Anne Center in Oshkosh. (I'm not sure where the money is going this year)
9. Godot's Feast Options: Unfortunately we were unable to discuss Godot's Feast Options because Kim, who is on the committee was unable to get to the meeting. We will present the options and most likely vote on where and when to have Godot's Feast at the Feb. 2nd meeting.
10. Wicked Trip: We chose a date for the trip to see Wicked. We will be seeing Wicked Sunday March 5th. Students are responsible for purchasing their own tickets, however we can do fund-raising to help students pay for tickets. The cheapest tickets come to a total of $44. Jobey saw Wicked in October and said that there are pretty much no bad seats in the house, so the quality of the seats isn't really an issue. Unfortunately transportation may be first come first serve depending on how many people are interested in going. We will be getting a 15 passenger van from the university which will cost us .44 cents a mile. Roy estimated that we would be looking at $130 to $150 for this trip. If you are interested in going please think of some ways we can fund-raise, and let us know.
11. Lock in/Movie Pizza Night update: We've picked a date for this as well [please note, this date may be changing due to the proximity to the student one act] Friday Feb. 24th. We will have to give the campus police at least 24hrs notice and every student will have to have an overnight pass signed by Roy. We will have pizza and other food, but we need to pick some movies to watch... these movies should be either theatre related or a play/musical that has been adapted for film/tv. Please post ideas here on the blog, e-mail us, or leave us a note in the TAB office (formerly the coat check room by the lobby)
12. Improv/variety show group Update: We will finally be getting this group put together for 2nd semester. Adam will be working with Peter Brookes from North Scott as well as anyone else who is interested in being on the board for this. If you are interested in being involved with this, we will be having a meeting in the near future to further structure how the group will work. We will keep you posted.
13. Blog: Maria reminded everyone about the blog, which, if you are reading this you obviously know about. Feel free to leave us comments...
New Business:
1. Student Technologies Fund: Crystal Heckert applied for the theatre to get money from the student technology fund and we were awarded $5,000 for two new projectors, a few new belt packs, and whatever else Mick has them buy for us (has to be considered technology) PLEASE THANK CRYSTAL WHEN YOU SEE HER!!! This is fantastic news, and it means not only that we will have some nice equipment, but also that the theatre can use our very small budget for other things.
2.Holiday Party: There is a Holiday Party this coming Friday (Dec. 9th) for people who have been involved with theatre this semester. The party is hosted by Kathleen (who is an excellent cook!). There is a sign up sheet in the theatre hallway. People attending can bring a food item if they would like, however it is not required. People who need rides to Kathleen's please let us know!
3. Poster hanging/program stuffing parties: TAB is going to start helping out with stuffing programs and hanging posters so please keep a lookout for signs about helping with this... previously Noel and Jenny have stuffed the thousands of programs themselves as well as put up all the posters. Pizza or some sort of tasty treats may be provided after these parties.
4. New Department Webpage/CD: Roy is looking to Update our webpage as well as make a new CD to hand out to prospective students. Maria will be helping out with this. If you are interested in helping out please let Maria or Roy know.
5. Musical Workshop: We would like to know how many people would be interested in attending a musical workshop if we were to have one... the people who were in attendance were interested so we will be finding out more information about this.
6. Rebel/Eclectic shows: Two community theatre groups in the area have shows over the next few weekends. Rebel Alliance will be doing "I hate Christmas" and Eclectic Arts Ensemble will be doing "A Christmas Story" If people are interested in learning more about these shows I would suggest googling them. Tickets for these shows would most likely be $5 or $10. If anyone is interested in getting a group together to see either show, let us know.
7. Rent is playing at the PAC in Appleton Feb. 24th and 25th. tickets are $34-$64. If people are interested in going we can get a group together. There may also be some student rush tickets available on the day of the show. For more info go to www.foxcitiespac.com
The Movie version of Rent is also now playing at the Oshkosh movie theater. We can see this as a group if people want and go somewhere to eat afterward.
8. R/T/F related things:
A)RTF/Theatre MIXER: TAB will be playing GAME ULTIMO EXTREME! with Film Society this coming Thursday (Dec. 8th). It is a combination of several childhood games and is A LOT OF FUN This is a good way to get to know other TAB members as well as RTFers too. We will be playing after the Film Society meeting so we suggest that you attend the meeting. It starts at 4:30 in Halsey (not sure of the room number... we will send out an e-mail) If you plan to attend DRESS WARMLY... if there is snow on the ground wear white, if not, wear black.
B)Darkrunner Cast: Film Society's fall film, Darkrunner, is still looking for a few actors (male and female) the parts are police academy students and the film is an action/mystery. If you are interested please e-mail Erica Mazzolari(producer) at mazzoe00@uwosh.edu or talk to Kipp Sowers.
C)Dirt Cup Sale: Thursday (Dec. 1st) Film Society was selling Dirt Cups to raise money for Darkrunner and we announced the details for anyone interested in showing their support or just hungry for a tasty dirt cup.
D)Past Viewing: After The TAB meeting there was a showing of "Past", one of the student films that was worked on last year. Megan Link, Jamie Wagner, and Scott Thompson (alumni) from the theatre department are all in the film. If you are interested in seeing this film please talk to Luke Kalteaux.
9. New business brought up by TAB members: Will asked if we could find out more information about doing the monopoly fund-raiser Roy had suggested last year. This was an idea that stemmed from a design studio project where students designed a tv version of monopoly. Roy had suggested that we make one of these where businesses could buy the spaces like boardwalk and we could have teams from different departments, etc. This would be something to get us publicity on campus and around Oshkosh as well as raise money for something like a charity or a scholarship fund. We will be finding out more information about what would be involved in doing something like this.
Meeting was adjourned at 6:14pm
